Nurturing your own language and culture is important. Language and culture are part of identity; you don’t have to give up everything when you move to a new country. It is also important for children born in Finland to learn about their own roots. Parents can tell memories and stories, show photos and read fairy tales in their own language. The holidays of one’s own culture are often ones that continue to be celebrated in the new home country as well.
